But Mark Twain/Samuel Clements died in Redding Connecticut.

So for some reason,Mark Twain turned his his back on Hartford Connecticut. The man headed for pastures greener.

This is a great destination for adults. The docent we had been was very courteous, engaging and we'll informed. Some of the guides dress in period costume, such as the butler.

Exceeded my expectations. Visit the museum, tour the home and learn about one of our country's most interesting historical figures. I recommend the living history tour given by an actress playing the part of an 1800's house servant.

I also believe he is buried in a family plot in New York.

Just bare this in mind when visiting the house.

Obviously this is a great source of pride, and employment for Hartford.

There is no touching allowed so not a good place for kids. The lighting is very dim in the house, apparently to keep it as Historical as possible. There is no photography of any kind allowed.

They have been restoring this place for the last 50 years. It really shows, everything is well put together. Things in the home appear to be original or a very good reproduction. The tour guides have excellent knowledge about the property. Our group asked many questions and the tour guide had answers for all of them. Picture taking is not allowed inside the house.

Maybe he didn't get on with the neighbors.

We will never know.

It is one of many houses, houses Mark Twain lived in.

Mark Twain was a unique individual and his home expresses that unique feeling for adventure and travel. Every detail was thoughtfully attended to. The new museum building is exquisite with plenty of free parking. The grounds are beautifully landscaped and are shared with the Harriet Beecher Stowe house and a third house belonging to Stowers niece who had the vision to preserve the houses and the grounds for future generations. Well worth the trip to see these gorgeous homes and to learn about M. Twain and H.Beecher Stowe. Easy to get to just down the street from the off ramp of I84. It is also said to be haunted by his daughter Susan who died there as a young woman. They give candlelight tours and for an additional $5 you can do the tour which includes the basement. Around Halloween they also do special night tours which sell out quickly so get your tickets early. Very interesting historical place.

Mixed feelings about this place.

Great gift shop and visitor center.

Maybe he had bad memories here,it was an unlucky house.
