MICE!!!

I give Clemens a 5-star rating primarily due to what I feel is unfair low ratings from other residents.

- The neighborhood - Unlike others here, I actually really liked the neighborhood, but understand it for what it is before you move in. Hartford is a diverse city and is a bit rough around the edges. That being said, I never had any of the concerns about safety in the immediate area that others did. Anyplace west and north of Clemens is really nice, further east or south not as much so. But I came to appreciate this diversity in events at the Mark Twain House, the weekly West End Farmer's Market, or visits to Tisane's, Half Door, Metro Cafe, or Mo's Midtown. Weekly concerts in the nearby Elizabeth Park are nice, and the UConn Law School campus close by is beautiful and the library is open to the public. For the runners, there are plenty of nice routes north of Farmington Ave. towards Elizabeth Park and even up Scarbourogh St. Also really like the landscaping of Owen Street in itself.

I HAVE REPORTED MANY TIMES BUT THEY DO NOT CARE.

THINK ABOUT GOING TO COURT FOR THAT OR CALLING THE POLICE

In general, the apartment unit was adequate. I compare this to a mid-year Honda Civic, so hold your expectations to that. Also keep in mind that "Clemens Place" is actually like the whole neighborhood here, so reviews might vary based on location here. I was located in the main building on Owen Street, but it was my perception that many of these issues that are in these reviews refer to their buildings north of Farmington Ave (esp. parking concerns), and west of Sission (esp. safety concerns).

Security - Clemens hires full time security to patrol the lots. They are friendly and helpful. They are located in the 16 Owen St. building so those units might be "safer". I never had any concerns about the safety of my vehicle, but I also never left anything of value in sight. Just take precautions.

MICE!!!

BEWARE. They will nickel and dime you with fees and security deposit deductions. The office is unresponsive and disorganized: you will get three different answers when asking the same question to three different people. Shower water goes from ice cold to scalding hot, some apartment buildings have wild animals living in the walls/attic, and many doors do not lock properly or are propped open potentially allowing non-residents access to buildings. I left very disappointed due to an oversight in the leasing office. This oversight resulted in a fee that I was responsible for paying and a refusal to waive said fee. Be weary and make sure every conversation is in writing!

MICE!!!

I have been living there for 2 years and the apartment roof was leaking water. I asked them to fix it many times and they never did. When I told them I'm moving out because of the leaking, they send their workers to fix it and they damaged the floor and the wall paint. I didn't like their service and the management was too mean and racist (especially the manger she was so racist) so I moved out. After I moved out they charged me $2500 for a dirty floor. That floor was damaged by their workers and I paid for it. $2500 for a carpet that may cost them $300. Not safe for living, the balcony is an easy way to enter the apartment. Sometime I get back from work and find the balcony door open which means someone was there. I had mice for one complete year, and they damaged my furniture and eat my clothes.

Parking - Paid $25 / month for a second car, and you can have as many spaces as you need. There are plenty of spot and they have a visitor pass system for free. $25 is reasonable. Snow removal? Never had a problem with it and don't blame Clemens for needing the cars to get moved. They only ask cars to get moved after large snow events when they need to really clean up.

- In my experience Management here was actually some of the best that I have ever worked with. I've been in "nicer" (more expensive) units where management has been horrible. These folks were responsive for any questions or maintenance issues.

The unit- Clean, never once an issue with an insect or rodent, and never saw as much as a spider during my time here. I suspect that many of the issues are caused by residents or neighbors leaving out food or not cleaning adequately. I had an "non-updated" unit, which meant my appliances were circa 1980, but everything worked fine and maintenance was responsive if I ever had an issue.

The Gym - No its not glamours, but it is totally functional and has a lot more items than many in-apartment gyms. Has a few squat racks and barbells, something that many newer apartments don't have. Never felt like I needed an external gym membership when I lived here.

MICE!!!

I lived here for one year from 2016-2017 and it was everything I expected. Is this the luxury apartments that you will find other places in the area? No. But I personally never had any of the horror stories that others seem to mention, and the price is more than reasonable compared to other places in the region (I paid $1235 for a small two-bedroom apartment on a flexible lease term - which are actually fairly generous and they don't make you maintain responsibility until the next tenant comes in like most other places do around here).

A few things:

*MICE - THIEF - UNSAFE PARKING LOTS - NEVER GET MONEY BACK*

We met with leasing agent who gave us good information. We looked at three places here and finally made a choice for a one bedroom. We actually love it here. I do understand that there is new management and that is key. Already, being here one week, we have had a new screen put in, a window repaired, disposal tweaked. The maintenance person was very nice (Charley). Have met neighbors who are lovely. We are enjoying the view from third floor, and having fun checking out local establishments. Now we will have to review in 6 months as we just got here. Will See. Right now these folks are very professional!

ESPECIALLY ON FARMINGTON AVE

- Deposit - Without ANY issues I got my full deposit back despite some minor wear-and-tear damage that I felt that management was going to deduct me on based on previous comments. Work with management to see what you need to do (for example, shampoo your carpet), ask for a pre-inspection and you will be fine. They made it as simple as possible. Not sure what others did to warrant their deposit out, but in my experience, management is reasonable.
