Dear City of Hartford Tax Office,

First of all, you do not even deserve one star, there s/b a big negative sign in front of it.

Sincerely,

That 5-star review below must be a joke. The tax collector's office for a capitol city has a voicemail system that is perpetually full and cannot accept messages - never mind the fact that no one will EVER answer the phone?!?!

Same issue as everyone else. No one answers the phone or returns calls. I just want to register my boat, but the city of Hartford has apparently told the DMV that I owe motor vehicle taxes. Online lookup shows I have no outstanding balance, because there isn't one. Now I get to go downtown to get a a DMV release that should have been automatic.

And all this of course, is still with no success, which then forces the working taxpayer to then have to waste more time to go downtown and stand in line for more than an hour just to have someone do what needs to be done in order to register a vehicle.

Secondly, why even bother posting your phone number if you NEVER answer the phone or return messages?!!

Hartford is among the highest taxed cities in the country, yet you cannot provide the resources necessary to assist your customers adequately during the busiest times of the season; nor do you have the technological efficiencies properly in place to handle the volume. It is 2017, please figure it out and DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT, because your job as public servants is to service the public properly.

They NEVER answer the phone, and even after leaving a message they never called back. I called to get a serious matter fixed and it was impossible to get a hold of someone. I don't know why they have lazy people working there.

Besides the above, they have lost/misplaced several of my tax payments from the last TWO cycles - despite sending all of my payments in one envelope (through certified mail.) Utterly incompetent - but at least my property taxes are obnoxiously high for a range of city services that are continuously the poorest around.

Have any of you read your mission statement recently:

WHY ISN'T THIS AUTOMATED YET?! Oh but you can take my money electronically though...

The will work with you if you wont to be responsible they never return calls but you have to go there in person for any and all things to get answer that could be answered on the phone it crazy

Lastly, it's amazing how the city is quick to put a vehicle in "non-compliance" but once payment has been made in full, it takes countless attempts of checking online and trying to contact someone to have the compliance issue reversed and info forwarded to DMV(even after waiting the so-called 10 business days for payment to clear, which we all know is B.S.).

YOU ARE NOT SUCCEEDING.

One of the 125,000 citizens who pays your salaries. :-/

“Tax Office personnel continually strive to provide superior customer service (had to laugh after reading this part... MUST BE A JOKE) to taxpayers and the public-at-large, while managing nearly eighty-thousand taxpayer accounts and processing nearly a quarter of a million financial transactions annually.”
